For most of the Cold War, the US army in Europe found itself far outnumbered by the large WARPAC forces right across the iron curtain. While NATO benefited from larger draftable population overall, it would take months for these draftees to arrive on the battlefield. The US Army, therefore, relied on a smaller professional armed force that, through superior training and defensive preparations, could stall the Eastern Bloc long enough for reinforcements to be brought to bear.
This faction is structured around the squad. Each squad will be expected to work together and with the Platoon leader to achieve their given objectives.
The Soviet military was the backbone of the East Bloc forces and its backbone was the Soviet motor-rifleman. Soviet doctrine focused on a short, decisive end to any armed conflict. They therefore relied on mandatory conscription where every eligible male was required to complete at least two years of military service. They could, therefore, deploy a massive force at any given moment, though at the cost of the skill of a professional armed force. This faction is structured platoon. Each conscript will be expected to fulfull their role in the platoon under direction of the Platoon Commander in order to achieve their given objectives.
The East German military was second in combat capability only to the Soviet Union among the WARPAC nations. East Germany had no illusions that they sat right on the doorstep of a potential world war. Their military was well regarded as a highly professional force that drew upon long established German military traditions combined with East Bloc military doctrine. All members of this faction are required to assemble a complete East German kit including proper insignia. Proper wear of the uniform will be expected on the field to match the professional nature and training of East German soldiers.
